The opposite of slow-fashion is fast-fashion, an industry dominated largely by multi-billion dollar corporations that put out hundreds to thousands of new clothing items per week. Clothing and other apparel are mass produced, often by workers experiencing low-quality working conditions. This cheap, poor-quality clothing imitates current trends and is intended to be disposed of as new trends dominate the market. The industry puts a strain on the environment, with 12 million tons of textiles being added to landfills every year, and contributing to 10% of world carbon emissions.
